Member ID Cards - Knowing Which System

Over the next few months, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York will begin issuing new Highmark ID cards to our members. These ID cards will help providers determine whether members have moved onto the Highmark system, or if they are still on the current “legacy” BCBSWNY system. We want to clarify these ID card changes for you so you can best coordinate coverage for members.

ID Cards for Members on the Legacy System

If a member is on the legacy system, their ID card will either have the old BCBSWNY logo on it OR it will have the new Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York logo, but the back of the ID card will be shaded blue.

ID Cards for Members on the Highmark System

For members who have moved onto Highmark’s system, their cards will feature the new Highmark BCBSWNY logo and both the front and the back of the ID card will be white.

Confirming Which System a Member is on with HEALTHeNET

Other than ID cards, you can also confirm which system a member is on by running an Eligibility Transaction on HEALTHeNET. Once you submit the member's information, the Eligibility Response page will tell you whether they are on the legacy system (BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York) or on Highmark's system (Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York).

You can visit the BCBSWNY provider resource page to learn more about new processes for our members who have moved onto Highmark’s system.
